Golden Gut Superfood Smoothie

Greetings OWL lovers, 

What a wild and beautiful world we are living in. With these constant winds of change, no one knows what tomorrow will bring, but one thing is certainly clear: Our health and our wellness is our actual wealth and should be our top priority during these wild and trying times. 

The healthier and more balanced we are, the more capable and adaptable we will be as we ride these ever-changing waves of trials, tribulations, and rebirths as a human family! With the intensity of all that is transpiring collectively in our world today, nourishment, simplicity, and ease feel like a must.

If we translate simplicity and easy into cookin', we think SMOOTHIES, of course! So it is with great pleasure that I introduce today's recipe to you; The Golden Gut Superfood Smoothie! It is nourishing, creamy, sweet, and oh so satiating! It is easy to make, loaded with superfoods, and will keep you fueled, nourished, and energized for hours. The best part is that it is amazing for your gut health. All you have to do is toss it all into your blender, hit the button, pour, and enjoy! It's like magic, really.

Before we dive in and begin downloading our superfood smoothie codes, I want to take a moment to share a piece of my wellness and gut healing journey with you all. My intention is to connect with you on common grounds and to share why I happen to be so passionate about gut health and healing...

The truth is, I've suffered from gut dysbiosis for almost my entire life! As we are learning more and more today, gut dysbiosis creates an environment for mental health disorders like brain fog, memory loss, and depression, and let me tell you, I have suffered from all of the above for a lot of my life. And dysbiosis also creates issues with nutrient absorption which affects your overall health and is just no fun at all. To make a long story short, my Mother, like many of our Mothers just did not have the tools, knowledge, and skill sets that we see today and did not know how to protect us from harmful toxins, drugs, and antibiotics that were and still are hidden in our foods. As a result, as a child, I ate a lot of processed food, fast food, and junk food. My body was so acidic, my digestion was poor, I struggled with nutrition absorption and retention, and I was prone to infections. These implications paired with the emotional stressors really did a number on my health. I had no idea what was wrong with me or how to fix it so this constant state of fog and un-wellness carried me through my life up until my early twenties when I totally crashed and burned...

One morning, I woke up and my entire body was covered in hives and my eyes were literally swollen shut. I was honestly terrified about what was happening to my body. I quickly checked into the ER where I was told that they had no idea what was wrong with me. They pumped steroids into my body which helped for a bit but with time, my symptoms came back. I felt so defeated and knew I needed to find another way. I quickly hit the Google search bar for some alternative answers! After hours of research and going down the rabbit hole, I stumbled upon a Gut Health Blog and quickly realized I was experiencing leaky gut syndrome and my body was having a severe autoimmune response - hence all of the hives and swelling! I was honestly in shock and quickly appalled after learning that my dietary choices were actually wreaking havoc on my body and my health!

After that experience, I was so DONE! I began researching and learning about gut health, nutrition, and went on to discover what true health and wellness really meant to me. To this day, I am still playing with all kinds of different philosophies and practices in search of what my body loves the best! All of this is to really say that we are so sensitive, precious, and we must become empowered and educate ourselves, question the world, and really everything we put on and in our bodies. The root of what I’ve discovered is, what is most nourishing, supports our body, gut, and brain, and is simple is what feels the best!

So with that said, let's download some gut-healing smoothie codes! What makes this smoothie so GOLDEN!? Well, it is loaded with essential vitamins, minerals, folic acid, and antioxidants! The base is steamed and chilled pumpkin, which is rich in beta carotene and potassium as well as vitamins A, E, B, and C. Next comes the zucchini, which has many valuable minerals including, calcium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, and lots of potassium. Zucchini also offers lots of vitamins including vitamin A, C, K, and folic acid, which helps the body produce and maintain new cells. Pretty powerful stuff! As a bonus, zucchini contains antioxidants and we all know we can never have enough of those little miracles.

As always, you know we have a superfood kick for you! It wouldn't be a golden milk smoothie without some key players... First, we have ginger. Ginger provided us with even more essential vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatory superpowers! Next, we have turmeric. Turmeric has anti-inflammatory qualities on top of healthy carbohydrates, fiber, protein, and the oh-so-precious manganese, iron, and potassium! If you don’t know, turmeric needs to be activated by fresh cracked pepper which has cancer-fighting properties, can aid in decreasing depression, helps with digestion, and encourages weight loss... Who would have known that pepper is a serious superfood!?

As a bonus, this smoothie is sweetened with raw honey, which is packed with phytonutrients, antioxidants, and antifungal and antibacterial properties and is just downright delicious! Don't worry vegans, coconut sugar is just as mineral-rich and delicious and is a fine choice too!

So, let's get blending!  


Golden Gut Superfood Smoothie


INGREDIENTS

  • 1 cup pumpkin cubes, steamed and chilled
  • 1 cup raw zucchini, peeled
  • 1/2" piece of ginger 
  • 1/2" piece of turmeric 
  • Tiny pinch of fresh cracked pepper 
  • Honey, coconut sugar, or stevia to your desired sweetness
  • Ice 
  • 1 cup OWL Broth Elixir

 

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Simply toss all of these powerhouse superfoods into your blender with some ice and give thanks for this beautiful life, your health, your wellness, and your highest joy! Aho!
