What Nutrients Does Bone Broth Contain?

Bone broth is a nutrient dense stock made by simmering animal bones and connective tissue. The bones themselves provide you with calcium, magnesium, potassium, and phosphorus. Bone marrow contains vitamin A, E, several B vitamins, omega-3 and omega–6 fatty acids and minerals like iron, selenium and zinc1. Glucosamine and chondroitin are the main substances pulled from the connective tissue. All combined, these ingredients yield gelatin that provides you with several amino acids, particularly glycine.

What Are the Benefits of Bone Broth?

Collagen for Gut Health

The connective tissues used in bone broth are high in collagen protein.

Collagen is beneficial in healing the lining of your intestinal wall. Glutamic acid found in the gelatin formed when cooking bone broth, helps strengthen your digestive tract and protects against leaky gut syndrome2.

Joint Health Support

Bone broth is a popular pathway for healing and relieving joint pain. The glucosamine and chondroitin found in these connective tissues are common supplements for joint health and pain3. Consuming them in bone broth as a natural source of these vital substances is the best way to absorb them into your system.

Amino Acids for Sleep and Brain Function

Glycine is an amino acid that helps promote good sleep4. This is particularly beneficial for gut health. Quality sleep keeps inflammation low which in turn contributes to a healthy digestive system and improved brain function.

Healing Herbs for a Strong Immune System

OWL’s Broth Elixirs are herb-infused to enhance the benefits you gain from consuming them, on top of giving your immune system a boost. A healthy digestive system helps promote your natural immunity. But it’s the medicinal herbs we add to our recipes that give you an extra line of defense.

Herbs like turmeric, ginger, sage, lavender, and sorrel5 are packed with vitamins and compounds that act as antioxidants and contain anti-inflammatory properties. These help support your immune system by strengthening and protecting it from outside bacteria and viruses. Nature’s medicine is an important component that elevates OWL Broth Elixirs above the rest.

Healthy Skin, Hair, & Nails

An added benefit of collagen-rich bone broth is the support it provides to your skin, hair, and nails. Studies show that collagen can help slow the aging of your skin by reducing dryness and lessen the appearance of wrinkles6. Collagen can also help strengthen the cells within your hair and nails, resulting in an improvement of the overall structure of both7.

The OWL 30-Day Broth Challenge

Regular consumption of herb-infused bone broth has a laundry list of benefits for your entire body. That’s why we created the 30 Day Broth Challenge - so that you can experience the lasting impact of our superior Broth Elixirs by incorporating a healthy habit into your daily routine.

Why 30 Days?

When we start a new season, routine, program - anything that comes with an exciting kick-off, we’re full of enthusiasm and visions of a new chapter in life. We are motivated to make a change. The downside is that, for a lot of us, motivation is fleeting.

There will come a day when you hit a wall, and it can be so, so easy to quit or give up. That’s why consistency is key when building a healthy habit. Consistency wins when your motivation falters. Consistency builds habits which help us keep moving forward. Consistency builds momentum, and is the key to lasting change.

Science tells us that it takes at least eighteen days to develop a habit. And for some of us, it can be challenging to form habits because we’re not as suited for it as others8. That’s why we’ve come up with some tips and tricks to help you build the habit strength to incorporate OWL Broth Elixirs into your daily rituals during the 30 Day Broth Challenge.

  1. Create a routine - routines and rituals are the foundation of habit building. When you build a routine that fits your life and centers around the things that are important to you (i.e. family, career, passions), you’re more likely to stick to it and develop a connection with your actions.
  2. Set a schedule - scheduling gives you structure and holds you accountable. It also trains your brain and body to learn the new pattern that you want to incorporate into your day. Eventually that pattern becomes a natural flow that fits into your existing routines.
  3. Connect with a community - having the support system of people you can check in with empowers you and gives you the reassurance that you’re on the right track. This can be a friend group that shares the same interests, or even a health coach who can guide you and offer you the support you need to reach your goals.

Getting Started

The hardest part after deciding that you want to make a change is taking action. At OWL we are always ready to answer your questions and give you the inspiration you need to begin your journey to a healthier life. So the only question that remains - are you ready for the challenge?

Julie Weller

Julie is a self-made writer on a forever journey of fitness and health. As a high school music teacher, she has seen and experienced the challenges of maintaining good health while simultaneously balancing a career and healthy relationships.

Julie has always lived a healthy and active lifestyle. She loves the outdoors, hiking, and camping. Over the years she has continued to learn smarter and better ways to take care of her body while continuing to do the things that make her smile. Naturally, all of her teacher friends wanted to know how she did it - what was her secret?

Julie found herself explaining over and over everything she'd learned in her research, and sharing her experiences through trial and error. Her friends would take her advice, try some new things, and then come back to ask how to take it to the next level.

"You should charge for this kind of information!" Became a constant phrase, and so began her career of writing to share her knowledge with the world through health and wellness companies looking to spread healing and healthy habits within their communities. Now Julie gets to combine two of the things she enjoys most - writing and wellness - and use them to affect change in a real way.

When not making music with her kiddos, or writing wellness tips for a higher quality of life, you can find her reading, hiking, drumming, and fitnessing
