As OWL Venice has grown, we’ve had the honor and privilege of working with some incredible people who are dedicating their lives to revolutionizing the food industry, protecting the environment, and making a positive impact on the world.
As you probably already know, all of these causes are at the heart of what we do here at OWL. We are committed to creating products that are good for our bodies and the earth. This is why we shop local, use the highest quality bones, maintain a zero waste policy, and surround ourselves with people who constantly inspire us!
We’d like to introduce you to one of those inspiring people... Meet Oliver English.
OIiver English is a filmmaker, chef, and food advocate here in Venice, CA. His official title is Co-founder & CEO of Common Table Creative.
ABOUT OLIVER ENGLISH
In many ways, Oliver was destined for his career in the food industry. He’s the son of a couple who met in culinary school and he grew up helping out at their restaurants. He’s worked nearly every job in the business, but it wasn’t until he began designing and developing restaurants around the world that he started to understand the impact of the global food system.
In his travels abroad, Oliver witnessed the positive impact food has on culture — how it can unify, connect, and inspire people. But he also saw how the globalized food industry negatively affects our climate, local farmers, health, and communities. It was this experience that prompted Oliver to ask questions about where our food comes from and how it’s grown… questions that would ultimately change the trajectory of his life.
“This was the moment in my life where I realized I needed to learn everything I could about these issues, and figure out how to educate and inspire others. I didn’t know yet where it would lead, but I knew I had to start.” - Oliver English
Now on a mission to change the world through food, Oliver is using his passion, experience, and knowledge to educate others on how we can lead more sustainable, connected, and healthy lives.
ABOUT COMMON TABLE CREATIVE
One impactful way Oliver is spreading awareness is through film. In November 2016, Oliver combined forces with his brother, Simon English (filmmaker and environmentalist), and best friend, Jamer Bellis (storyteller, poet, and plant biology major), to create Common Table Creative — a global production company specializing in telling stories about the power of food.
Since their conception, Common Table Creative has created many short films that tell the stories of farmers, entrepreneurs, and organizations using food to make positive change in the world. Their documentary film, Feeding Tomorrow, is set to be released in 2020.
Common Table Creative is leading by example and fostering a sense of community in Venice by hosting pop-up dinners that highlight local farms and educate people on the power of their food choices. They’ve also transformed the small patch of land outside their Venice home into a veggie and herb garden, lovingly referred to as the Front Yard Farm. It’s through these initiatives that Oliver English and the rest of the Common Table Creative team are creating lasting change in our community and our world!

Join us at the OWL HQ on Abbot Kinney for an evening to prepare for the week ahead with an interactive workshop on simple, healthy, regenerative meal prep and the power of sourcing with Oliver English from Common Table Creative. Learn a few quick tips on preparing weekly meals incorporating OWL bone broth elixirs, to bring to location, work or on an adventure!
