What is the Bone Broth Diet?

If you’ve been researching modern diets, you’ve likely heard all about low-carb diets, intermittent fasting, and paleo diets. While many people follow these protocols to lose weight, they also have other notable benefits such as regulated blood sugar, reduced inflammation, improved digestion, and increased energy.

But what does this have to do with bone broth?

Well, bone broth may be the secret ingredient to maximizing the benefits of these popular diets while making it sustainable to practice all three at once!

If you’re looking to heal your body from the inside out, reset your digestive system, and improve your holistic health, a bone broth diet may be the optimal solution.

The Bone Broth Diet:

The bone broth diet is a 21-day program that incorporates principles from low-carb, Paleo, and intermittent fasting diets.

Low-Carb Diet:

The low-carb diet eliminates carbohydrates found in bread, pasta, and sugary foods and is high in protein, fat, and healthy veggies. Those who follow this diet avoid sugar, refined grains, trans fats, diet/low-fat products, highly processed food, and starchy vegetables.

Paleo Diet:

The Paleo diet is based on foods and beverages that might have been consumed during the Paleolithic era. It is also known as the hunter-gatherer diet, caveman diet, Stone Age diet, and Paleolithic diet. This diet is high in fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds, lean meat, fish, and oils derived from fruits and nuts. Foods to avoid while on the Paleo diet include grains, legumes, dairy products, refined sugar, salt, potatoes, and highly processed foods.

Intermittent Fasting:

Intermittent fasting is a diet protocol that focuses less on the kinds of food you eat and more on  when you eat. Because of this, it’s considered to be more of an eating pattern than an actual diet. There are many ways to practice intermittent fasting but some of the most common methods include the 16/8 method, Eat-Stop-Eat, and the 5:2 diet. The 16/8 method involved 16 hours of fasting and an 8 hour daily eating period. Eat-Stop-Eat is a method that includes 24 hours of fasting once or twice a week. The 5:2 diet requires you consume 500-600 calories two days a week while eating normally the other five days.

How Does the Bone Broth Diet Work?

While intermittent fasting, the low-carb diet, and Paleo diet are all known to be effective when it comes to losing weight and improving the gastrointestinal system, the bone broth diet combines the principles of each of these dietary lifestyles to create a super-charged diet that works quickly to reduce cravings, heal the gut, and increase energy.

The gist of the bone broth diet:

The bone broth diet is a 21-day diet that follows the principles of the intermittent fasting eating pattern in combination with low-carb and paleo diets. This diet requires you to avoid dairy, grains, legumes, refined sugar, highly processed foods, and alcohol. Five days a week, you consume foods that are high in healthy fats, lean meat, fish, eggs, non starchy vegetables, and — you guessed it — bone broth. Two nonconsecutive days a week, you do mini-fasts in which you cut out all foods aside from bone broth. On both eating days and mini-fasting days, all meals and snacks should be consumed by 7pm.

Additional guidelines for the bone broth diet:

-21 Days in Total

-5 Eating Days/Week
Guidelines: High protein, high veggie, and moderate healthy fat meals. One cup of bone broth twice a day as a snack. No meals or snacks after 7pm.

-2 Mini-Fast Days/Week
Option 1: Six 1-cup portions of bone both throughout the day.
Option 2: Five 1-cup portions of bone broth and protein, healthy fat, and non starchy veggies as your last snack. No meals or snacks after 7pm.

What do you do when the 21-day bone broth diet is over?

Give yourself a pat on the back! Even though the bone broth diet is intended to be satiating and sustainable, it’s no easy task to change your eating habits and patterns.

Now that the 21 days are over, you’ll transition into the 80/20 maintenance stage of the bone broth diet. Now you can proceed by eating approved foods 80% of the time and ‘unapproved’ foods like dairy and alcohol 20% of the time.

While mini-fast days are no longer required, you can choose to continue integrating them into your eating schedule if you’d like.

An Alternative to the Bone Broth Diet

For those looking to focus on the health benefits of the bone broth diet rather than weight loss, OWL Venice has developed an organic bone broth cleanse program designed to repair the gut lining, reduce inflammation, and reset the digestive system. Less focus on ‘diet’ and more focus on nourishing the body.

The OWL Reset Program

The OWL Reset Program, based on the principles of Ayurveda and Chronobiology, consists of three bone broth elixirs and three nutrient dense hemp mylkshakes packed with ingredients that restore and repair the gut wall, increase digestive fire, reduce inflammation, and draw toxins and heavy metals from the body.

This program is ideal for those struggling with digestive issues and pain after eating. In addition, it can promote good sleep, support memory, improve brain function, build immunity, and reduce or eliminate symptoms of many autoimmune disorders.

The OWL Rest Cleanse comes in 4, 6, and 8 day programs and is available for shipping within the continental United States.

Learn to Make Your Own Broth

While there are many bone broth recipes available online, many of these broths aren’t suited for those struggling with digestive pain and bloating. Common bone broth ingredients like onion and garlic are known to cause inflammation and trigger gastrointestinal issues. Because of this, OWL Venice has developed a bone broth elixir recipe that is infused with healing, medicinal herbs and free of inflammatory ingredients.

To make our recipes more accessible, we’ve created the OWL Lifestyle Guide & Recipe E-Book, available for purchase here on our website.
