At OWL there’s not much we love more than basking in the SoCal sunshine. True to our philosophy, we aim to do this while still keeping our health in mind. In the past years there have been many controversies over the safety of chemical laden sunscreens. What we put on our skin gets consumed into our body, and we don’t want to put chemicals we can’t pronounce into our bloodstream. This is the motivation behind our Sun Potion, an oil based all natural sun protectant.
Here’s a little bit more about the ingredients behind the products and why we use them:
JOJOBA OIL: The main ingredient in our Sun Potion this gentle oil is perfect for application on the face. This oil is anti-inflammatory and believed to help many skin conditions common in the summertime heat like eczema and psoriasis. It’s also packed with Vitamin E and antioxidant properties which are thought to help relieve sunburns.
HAZELNUT OIL: Hazelnut oil is gaining in popularity for its’ use as a carrier oil in skin care. Hazelnut oil has high vitamin E content which helps protect your skin from sun damage and hyperpigmentation as a result of sun exposure.
CARROT SEED OIL: A powerhouse for the skin, this oil is believed to have an SPF of 38-40 when mixed with other sun protecting carrier oils. As a bonus, this oil also has anti-microbial, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties which may help prevent early aging.
RASPBERRY SEED OIL: This oil, lovingly touted Mother Nature’s Sunscreen, is believed to have a 28-50 SPF for UVB rays and an 8 SPF for UVA rays. In addition, this oil is also packed full of Vitamin E and polyphenols which help protect skin from free radical damage and may increase skin elasticity.
ESSENTIAL OILS: All of our skincare is scented with essential oils rather than chemical based fragrances. Sun Potion is scented with an uplifting blend of bergamot, chamomile, lavender, ylang ylang and rosemary. Bergamot and ylang ylang are both well known for their ability to boost mood. Chamomile, lavender and rosemary essential oils are often used for their ability to relieve stress and anxiety. So yes, it is essentially sunshine in a bottle.
We hope you love our natural skincare remedies as much as we do. Have fun in the sun, and stay protected with Sun Potion!
In health & healing,
A note on use: Skin cancer is still a very real risk, always follow recommendations from your doctor regarding your own skin health. Sun potion isn’t intended to replace sunscreen when you’re in direct sunlight for extended periods of time but rather as a part of your daily skincare routine.
