Sophia Avramides - OWL Certified Health Coach

Meet Sophia Avramides

What's your role with OWL and what inspires you about the company?

My role with OWL Venice is as a health coach to support folks before, during + after their Reset - and in addition, supporting customers through any questions they may have on their journey with OWL’s products and services with warmth + clarity.

What got you into health & wellness?

My path into health + wellness started in my late teenage years, when I decided it was time to take my decade-long diagnosis of psoriasis (a chronic auto-immune skin condition), and long-term anxiety into my own hands. I began my path into wellness by opting for more natural medicines, and learning about herbalism, rather than becoming reliant on the pharmaceuticals I had been prescribed. In my early 20s, I devoted myself to the study of Ayurvedic medicine, which became a foundational part of my practice. At one point, my upper body was about 70% covered in psoriasis. With persistent care, and reliance and discipline in diet, lifestyle, mindset + working with herbal allies, I was able to clear my body - and stay relatively free of psoriasis since. I deeply believe in the power of healing ourselves, committing to ourselves and our wellness, and I also recognize that the path is a spiral - not a straight line, which is something I truly like to share with my clients.

What is the most rewarding aspect of being a health coach?

The most rewarding aspect of being a health coach is introducing my clients to practices that literally change their lives for the better - be it, using a tongue scraper, brewing the perfect pot of herbal tea, or integrating more nuanced self-care practices and dietary tricks. I call my Ayurvedic practice and knowledge “life hacks”, as I genuinely believe they are easy integrations that make living life easier + often, more fun and enjoyable.

What kind of self care rituals do you have?

I am big on journaling and reflecting on my life. My gratitude practice is off the charts - it is what keeps me feeling alive and well. I know there is never a shortage of abundance in my life, because I reflect so often on the magic of what I already have. I am constantly drinking tea, and as an herbalist (and herbal artist) my devotion to working with plants and creating with them is high - meaning, there is always an herbal potion by my side.

Have you done the OWL Reset and if so, what was your experience like? Any advice you’d give to someone trying the Reset for the first time?

I have done the OWL Reset, and I loved it! I definitely became a little hangry and leaned on some of the approved foods list, which is something I would recommend keeping in mind for your Reset experience. The long term benefits were 100% reduced sugar cravings - I was shocked to experience such little need for my night time dark chocolate. My energy levels also became more balanced, as I do enjoy a caffeinated tea or chai in the am, and I became less dependent on caffeine throughout the 4-day experience. Drink lots of water, stay hydrated with warm or room temperature water, and remember to prioritize your rest in the experience.

What mantra do you live by?

I change my mantra daily based on my needs. I love to check in with myself in the morning, and choose an affirmation that feels best for me based on my current needs and state. One that I often find myself returning to - “I am more than enough as I am”.

Are there any books, podcasts, shows, meditations, or products that you’re loving right now?

I’m usually nose-deep in a book about herbal medicine. Right now, I am reading the Drunken Botanist, learning about the deeply-infused world of herbs and plants in cocktail culture - which is something I am fascinated in (as I develop herbal recipes for N/A cocktails). I’m also reading Sappho’s “If Not, Winter” for a poetry and tea night I host at my home in Los Angeles. I’m often listening to the Astrology of the Week podcast by Chani Nicholas, and diving into my teacher Sajah Pophams Evolutionary Herbalism podcast. Always looking to learn, I remain curious so you’ll usually catch me reading, listening or experiencing something!
