Dr. Amalia Gardner

I am working with OWL to give clients access to explore their emotional and physical patterns while discovering where they might need to focus on to facilitate balance in their system. We will utilize Chinese Medicine diagnosis along with functional labs (many of which can be done in the comfort of your own home) to get a clearer picture of what might need to be supported. Have you always been into wellness, or was there something specific that triggered it?
Many, many moons ago I was invited to an Ashtanga yoga class by a fellow dancer from my college, I was hooked and I never looked back. In my early 20’s I started exploring many different avenues of health and wellness which led me to Chinese Medicine and all the wonderful benefits it has to offer as a catalyst for healing.

What are some of the benefits of working with a Doctor of Chinese Medicine?
Chinese medicine diagnoses through the symptoms of the patient described and appearances (eye, skin and tongue color as well as pulse), seeks to address the overall systemic problem presented with a focus on preventing any potential adverse effects. Chinese Medicine doctors focus on the body's overall response to treatment while recognizing the body as one interconnected biosystem. Treatment changes the overall condition of the body including the immune system, but also takes care of the specific target problem.

What are your favorite self care habits?
When I'm my most balanced I practice yoga daily, spend 20 minutes in the sun and spend time with my family. I get up early because that is the time I can carve out for myself to read, engage in movement practices and plan how I will nourish myself for the day.

We heard you recently completed the OWL Reset - what’s your favorite thing about the program, and how does it leave you feeling?
As a mother in my 40’s I have a tendency to find myself exhausted. The OWL Reset gives me a beautiful, even energy that allows me to be fully present for all the demands of life and work also allowing space to set great habits to carry beyond the program.

What mantra do you live by?
Be here, be kind and laugh daily.

What's your favorite way to eat/drink/cook with OWL Broth Elixirs?
I make the “Get Your Greens” soup 3-4 times per week with the Vegan Mineral Broth Elixir because I'm obsessed with it. Sometimes I throw some brown rice, avocado or quinoa into the mix and I’m never disappointed.

Are there any books, podcasts, shows, meditations, or products that you’re loving right now?
I'm currently digging into my mediterranean roots and reading many books and articles on Greek medicine, the Byzantine empire, and western herbalism. A few of the books on my current book list are:

  • Narrative Medicine, Lewis Mehl-Madrona, M.D.
