WHAT'S YOUR ROLE WITH OWL AND WHAT INSPIRES YOU ABOUT THE COMPANY?

I am the new lead yoga instructor here at OWL; we are working together to incorporate more movement opportunities as they expand their wellness services. My journey in life has been very much connected with good health in the most natural form. I came from a place where cooking with fresh foods was paramount in the growth and development of our family. My mother is still riding that wave, preparing and consuming many vegetables, roots, herbs and lots of soup (her fish stew is my favorite)! I love OWL's Vegan Mineral Broth Elixir; it’s a high quality experience, not only for cleansing the body but also for improving and maintain overall health and wellbeing. This opportunity feels so aligned as I fully believe in Owl Venice’s values and mission!

HAVE YOU ALWAYS BEEN INTO WELLNESS, OR WAS THERE SOMETHING SPECIFIC THAT TRIGGERED IT?

From very early in my life I have always been interested in how improve my performance in competitive sports like soccer, baseball and basketball, so I made food and nutrition a priority. I understood the importance of diet from a young age and focused on consuming foods that benefitted the growth and development of my body, allowing me to achieve great results in sports and in my life.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU TO START TEACHING YOGA?

A few years back, I was very into cycling. My neighbor and one of my best friends- a kickboxer and cyclist- encouraged me to practice yoga to improve my mountain biking skills. At first I wanted to improve my endurance, but I also suffered from back and knee pain from working as a bus driver for the city of Seattle. The job was strenuous on the body, and I knew yoga would help me. I found a teacher and made time to practice. I participated alongside my teacher in her retreats and immersions, and the back and knee pain was gone. Years later I furthered my yoga practice and study, obtaining my 200-hour yoga certification and yoga kids certificate. The benefits of yoga are more that I could have imagined. The calmness, fitness, and endurance are just a few of the many benefits of yoga, allowing for better overall performance in life.
